Georgia Casino Royal Analysis

From the opening sequence of this movie you can tell if will be in the genre of crime and action and has some spy elements. The black and white picture gives the movie a secretive element and a sort of old fashioned style criminal touch. Also the opening sequence has a lot of violence in it so the audience can tell that action will continue throughout this movie because of the fighting scene that cuts from the black and white scene. From this the audience can expect the movie to carry on with the criminal and action genre. We can also tell that this movie will have something to do with money and secrets and gambling.

The titles in the movie fit the genre presented in the opening sequence. The colours and pictures represent playing cards ( red black and green ) and that links with the money gambling theme of the movie. The use of guns in the title sequence shows the action part in this film as well as the crime elements. The capital letters of the font in the titles are representative of the seriousness of the movie, the fact that there is death and violence in the film and that supports the crime and action genre in the film

In this film the main character is Daniel Craig he is known for being strong and has been in a lot of action films so the role of James Bond suited him well. He has done a lot of fighting scenes and so that worked in his favour when playing this character. He is also physically fit and you can see this in the fighting scenes. As well as being physically fit he is also attractive and in the black and white scenes of the sequence the mysteriousness that he bought to the character draws the audience in.

In this sequence the camera work is key as it sets the story up for the rest of the film. In the beginning it starts with a low angel shot.  This gives the impression that he is someone of importance and status. The use of high angle shots does the complete opposite of low angle and give the character on the film a less importance status. Also the close ups give a clear view of the expressions on the faces of the characters which gives the audience an idea of what is going on with the character. The interview conversation shots of the camera show a conversation and to the audience who is talking. It makes the conversation flow better for the audience so that they know who is  talking. The long shot of the character walking shows the audience what the character is wearing and from that the audience can get an idea of the status of the character. Another point on the camera work is the jump cutting between the two scenes. The way this is done is to show the before and after with the difference in the colours between the black and white and the more tan shade of the fighting scene. The fighting scene is edited well in to the right moments of the conversation between bond and the other character.

The lighting and the sound are very import and in a thriller. This is because they create suspense and drama and tell the audience that something is or isn't happening. in the beginning of the sequence the lighting is dull and dark and shows shadows. The actual scene was black and white which created suspense and mystery. Also when it jumped to a different scene (fighting scene) the lighting was different. this showed the different times at which the scenes had happened. The music is key in a thriller is hooks the audience as to what could happen next. Another point with sound effects is the sound of the gun and the fighting scene. this makes the scene look and sound more realistic. The titles had the song “you know my name” by Chris Cornell along side of it. the reason i believe they chose this song is because of the fact that this is a spy based film and everyone knows the name of James bond.

The sequence is about James bond  who was sent to kill the guy who was selling secrets and that just so happened to be someone high up in the Agency. The themes of law and criminality are present in this scene. This is because of the fact that the character who was selling the secrets was breaking the law and betraying his county but he worked for the law. And also James as he kills for his job but he works for the law. This theme a key one throughout the rest of the movie.
